Shopping on mobile devices is set to become the fastest growing retail channel, with growth expected to exceed 55 per cent during the next five years according to a study by Barclays
Food and groceries are the most popular mobile purchases, as consumers find it convenient to amend shopping lists and schedule delivery times on the move using smartphones and tablets.
However, completing transactions via mobile devices is only part of the picture, with over half of consumers questioned using the technology to research and compare prices before buying.
The real value to be found in m-commerce is through its role as a multi-channel integrator and the indirect sales boost it generates by connecting physical stores with online,” comments Barclays head of retail Richard Lowe.
